2019 And 2020 Will Be The Year Of Historical Dramas With Five Films In The Pipeline

Bollywood is changing at a fast rate like the current year 2018 is the year of biopics such as Sanju, Soorma, Padman, and Raazi. These films also ruled at the box office and earned a finest sum of amount. And, in 2019-20 Bollywood’s film genre will shift to historical dramas.

Yes, there are 5 to 6 films are in the making which are based on historical dramas. These films will not only feature a huge star cast but also follow some amazing chapters of history.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi

The film featuring Kangana Ranaut in the lead role will release January 25, 2019. This is the story of Queen of Jhansi, Rani Laxmibai produced by Kamal Jain and Zee Studios. However, we will also see Jisshu Sengupta, Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, Sonu Sood and Ankita Lokhande playing important roles.


Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer Kesari is based on the battle of Saragarhi. It will be directed by Anurag Singh, who made his Bollywood directorial debut with 2007’s Raqeeb.


Karan Johar’s multi-starrer Kalank will release on April 19, 2019. This film has stars like Varun Dhawan, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit and Sonakshi Sinha. It is directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Hiroo Yash Johar and Apoorva Mehta, and co-produced by Fox Star Studios.


Ashutosh Gowariker’s Panipat is slated to release on December 6, 2019, and it is based on the third battle of Panipat between the Maratha Empire and Durrani Empire. Arjun Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt will play the lead role.


Another Karan Johar’s multi-starrer film Takht featuring Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar is based on Mughal dynasty.
