5 Directors Who Showed They are Equally Good Actors as They are Behind the Camera

Over the years Bollywood has given us so many talented directors who know how to weave and knit a story. These talented humans, not only know the work behind the camera but are also able to get the best out of their actors while sometimes they take a step further ahead and turn to the art of acting themselves.

History is brimming with directors who tried their hand in acting surprised the audiences with their performances and acting skills. This further shows that some multi-talented people can get the best out of both worlds. So here we have compiled a list of 5 directors who tried their hand in acting and did a splendid job in both. Without further ado, let’s get into it:

1) Karan Johar

Karan Johar is without a doubt one of the best-multitalented persons Bollywood has given to us. He is a director, producer, a screenwriter, costume designer television personality and finally an actor. After a short cameo in DDLJ, Karan made his full-fledged debut in Bombay Velvet in 2015.

2) Farah Khan

Another person no stranger to donning multiple hats, she has played multiple roles in her career. Farah is a film director, producer, dancer, choreographer and finally an actress. After various cameo roles, she made her full debut alongside Boman Irani in 2012 film Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi.

3) Anurag Kashyap

Winner of a National Film Award and four Filmfare Awards, Anurag is one of the better-acclaimed directors in Tinsel town. However, that didn’t stop him from trying a hand in acting. Having made cameo appearances in many films such as  Black Friday, No Smoking, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny, he made his full debut in Shagird.

4) Farhan Akhtar


After a stunning debut with Dil Chahta Hai, Farhan moved on to direct produce films like  Lakshya, Don before trying a hand in acting. He made his debut with Rock On and has never looked back since. Movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara,  Bhaag Milkha Bhaag,  Dil Dhadakne Do further established his legacy as a brilliant actor.

5) Kunal Kohli

Having started his career in front of the camera itself with a show called Chalo Cinema, Kunal moved on to direct youth-oriented movies such as Hum Tum and Fanaa. He then made his official acting debut with Phir Se along with tv actress Jennifer Winget.
