Anurag Kashyap released one of his best films of his career titled ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and it marks 9 years of its successful release today. The film was a two-part crime and it revolutionized the potential of potrayal of Hindi films with actors who may be mostly unknown but fantastic actors.
Manoj Bajpayee played the role of Sardan Khan leading the cast of the film. Nawazuddin Siddiqui portrayed the role of Faizal Khan, son of Sardar Khan and became the strongest character in part two. This film became a breakout performance for the actor. On behind the scenes also, the team included actors and filmmakers like Vicky Kaushal, Vasan Bala and Neeraj Ghaywan.
Vicky Kaushal’s father, Sham Kaushal was the action director of the film while Vicky was the assistant director. There are often times in the film that assisstant directors acts as extras in the cinema inorder to fill the frame of the crowd.
Speaking to Midday, Vicky Kaushal said that “It’s the scene where Nagma Khatoon [Richa Chadha] goes to a brothel. Last minute, everyone [junior artistes] that we’d rounded up in Benares refused to participate in that scene, once they realised it’s a brothel. The entire direction team stood-in for them” and told about his blink and miss appearance in the film.
“I’m that silhouette you see behind the window-grille, overacting karte hue, when Nagma Khatoon is cursing Sardar Khan [Manoj Bajpayee]! That was the first time I faced a camera”, he added.
In Anurag Kashyap’s movie ‘Bombay Velvet’, Vicky had played the supporting character and later he played the lead roles in movies like ‘Raman Raghav’ and ‘Manmarziyaan’.
