Having raked in Rs 134.42 crore so far, Kabir Singh has become Shahid Kapoor’s highest solo grosser of the year at the box office. However, there is a new film in the town. After the hard-hitting Mulk, director Anubhav Sinha is back to explore yet another socially relevant subject in his latest release – Article 15.
The two films are all set to battle it out at the box office with Kabir Singh now going past its prime and Article 15 set to give Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani’s romantic drama stiff competition. The film has quickly become Shahid’s career’s highest grossing film and is expected to cross the Rs 150 crore mark this weekend. Written and directed by Sandeep Vanga, the film earned Rs 20.21 crore on its opening day.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh said on Twitter that Kabir Singh ” should comfortably cross Rs 200 crore in Week 2″.

On the other hand, Article 15 which made its way to the screens this week, has got a decent opening. The crime drama has been received well by the audience and critics alike and is expected to earn Rs 5 crore on its opening day.

The film, which revolves around the caste divide in the country, is based on Article 15 of the Indian constitution, which prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth. It reportedly takes inspiration from several real-life events, including the 2014 Badaun gang-rape incident.
Powerful. Spellbinding. Compelling. #Article15 gets glowing reviews!

Starring Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role, the film has a stellar supporting cast with the likes of Sayani Gupta, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub present as well. It should be an interesting weekend this, as the bragging rights at the box office will be contested between Article 15 and Kabir Singh.
Both Ayushmann and Shahid have done exceptionally well in the acting department, so, all in all, watch out this space for more updates.
