Cannes to celebrate the centenary year of Satyajit Ray, Prakash Javedekar to inaugurate Virtual India Pavilion

Prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2021 is back after battling with many hurdles. The event begins today with some of the last year’s postponed films due to pandemics and some completely fresh films. India is participating in the event virtually due to the ongoing pandemic situations. The event will be the highlight for celebrating the centenary year of Indian Legend, Satyajit Ray.

India is participating in the event through Virtual India Pavilion for the second time. While celebrating the 100 years of maverick filmmaker Satyajit Ray, the event will also promote India as the important destination for film shooting to the world cinema and co-production between Indian filmmakers and their contemporaries in the world.

The Virtual ‘India Pavilion at Cannes Film Market 2021’ is set to be inaugurated by Minister of information and broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar today on JULY 6, 2021. The inaugural session will also be addressed by Amit Khare, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India; H.E. Jawed Ashraf, Ambassador of India to the Republic of France and Principality of Monaco; Neerja Sekhar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Prasoon Joshi, Writer, Poet, and Chairman, CBFC;  Filmmaker Subhash Ghai and Ekta Kapoor.

The year 2021 marks the 100th year of Satyajit Ray whose vision wasn’t limited to Indian filmmaking only but also contributed to world cinema. He is celebrated for his thought-provoking and intelligent cinema. The legend has also been honoured with the prestigious Academy Award (Oscar) for his film ‘Pather Panchali’. A few days back, Netflix releases an anthology of four stories inspired by Satyajit Ray’s work.
