From quite some time, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starrer ‘83 has been in the news. The film is a sports biopic that will trace the journey of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team.
Ranveer will be playing Kapil Dev and Deepika will be seen as his wife, Romi Dev. While the announcement of Deepika joining the sports drama surely came as a bang, fans wanted to know what made Deepika say yes to this film. Now, as the Chhapaak actress joins Ranveer Singh and team ‘83 in the UK, Deepika revealed how she prepared for the role.
In a recent chat with Mumbai Mirror, Deepika stated that like Ranveer met up with Kapil Dev a couple of times to pick up character nuances, she too met Romi Dev.
The Padmaavat actress expressed that there were certain things about Romi Dev that she really admired. Stating that the candour of wife of Kapil Dev is what she likes the most, Deepika added that Romi Dev is extremely refreshing and funny and every time she meets her, it is an inspiring experience for her.
Deepika said, “I feel so inspired every time meet her. She has an extremely refreshing energy, is intelligent, knowledgeable, and funny. I like her candour.
“Romi ji is someone who is extremely honest and when she needs to express herself, she does it with a lot of dignity. I like the way she conducts herself with so much grace.”
Deepika went on to add that Romi Dev was Kapil Dev’s support system in times he needed. She added that it was this reason that brought her onboard the film.
“At the end of day, for any champion, the drive, commitment and dedication must come from within. But yes, having a solid support system is important as it allows the person to work without holding back, without any kind of emotional burden. In that sense, Romiji has played an extremely important part in Kapil Dev’s success,” asserts Deepika.
