In the recently released movie, Shakuntala Devi, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan played the role of a math wizard with an endearing personality. A new clip released by the makers of the film now shows her winning over children in a classroom. Looks like the clip didn’t make the movie that was released on the OTT platform Amazon Prime.
The video opens with Vidya peeping into a classroom even as a few kids exchange and share their lunch boxes while struggling with their mathematics class. After she is introduced as the guest teacher, Vidya as Shakuntala Devi, goes on to explain how maths is not about rules but magic because from dividing the aaloo paratha while sharing with friends to calculating the time left for the recess bell to go off, everything is about the magic of maths. She also makes a play on the letters of BODMAS – a calculation rule in mathematics – to turn it into a Bengali cuss word.
In the biopic directed by Anu Menon, Vidya played the lead role, but the movie also featured Sanya Malhotra, Jisshu Sengupta and Amit Sadh. The film had a direct-to-digital release on Amazon Prime Video and opened to mixed response from critics.
The actress, while promoting her recently-released film Shakuntala Devi on social media, shared glimpses of her class 10 report card and particularly showed the marks she scored in Mathematics in her board exams. The second picture that Vidya shared shows that she got 126 marks in Maths out of 150. The actress scored 82.42 percent in the class 10 board examination in 1994. Sharing the picture she wrote “I wasn’t a ‘genius’ but I was definitely good. Wow, not bad haan?” and then asked her fans to reveal their Mathematics marks in the comments section. Within minutes, several users revealed how much they scored in Maths in class 10. Some even went on to share their class 12 results.
