Rimi Sen’s original name is Subhamitra Sen and she hails from West Bengal. Before entering Bollywood, she changed her name to Rimi Sen. Later, she even dropped her surname ‘Sen’ as there are a lot of actresses with the same surname. Later she was popularly known as ‘Rimmi’.
She shot to fame after appearing in an advertisement with Aamir Khan for a leading soft drink brand. After that, she started to get noticed in the industry.
The actress made her acting debut as a lead actress in Telugu film ‘Nee Thodu Kavali’. In Bollywood, she made her debut opposite Akshaye Khanna and Aftab Shivdasani with the film Hungama, 2003.
She is also an Odissi dancer and has performed in the dance troupe of the eminent Kolkata-based Odissi exponent, Aloka Kanungo.
Rimi Sen’s only known relationship lasted for 8 years but after it ended in a sour way, she distanced herself from love. Personally she is a very reserved kind of person.
Rimi even appeared in season 9 of Big Boss, in a hope to kick start her career again, but eventually, she could not leave a positive and lasting impression.
The actress was last seen in Shagird in 2011 and since then she has been away from the world of films. She then produced the film Budhia Singh – Born to Run and joined Bhartiya Janta Party in 2017.
