Vinod Kambli was born on January 18 in 1972. The famous cricketer started as a talented school cricketer in Mumbai. But later he failed up to fulfill the expectations in 17 Tests and 104 One-Day Internationals. On his birthday we have brought some of the famous facts about the Mumbai Batsman who is one of the best examples of talent who got vanished after a period of time.

1. Vinod Kambli was born in a poor family in kanjurmarg. His father, Ganot was a mechanic and faced a tough phase while taking care of seven people in the family. When Kali was young, he traveled with his kit in crowded local trains for practice. His father was also a cricket player in Mumbai’s club circuit and honed his skill as a fast bowler.

2. He holds the record for the highest batting average (54.20) for an Indian in Tests, yes even higher than Tendulkar (min. qualification 20 innings).

3. Destiny always tested Kambli. While Tendulkar made his Ranji Trophy debut against Gujarat in 1998, Kambli had to wait for one more year for the same.

4. Kambli made his career by giving six in his first debut against Gujarat in 1989.

5. After back to back doubles, he scored a century in his next innings against Sri Lanka. He scored 125 against Sri Lanka in Colombo in July 1993.

6. Kambli’s average was always better than Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, and Virender Sehwag among all.

7. In 1993, on his birthday he achieved a unique feat of scoring a One-day International (ODI). He scored n unbeaten 100 against England in Jaipur.

8. In 1996, India faced am a wmbarassing exit from the World Cup. He was soon discarded from the team.

9. Kambli’s great personality made it into Bollywood in a couple of movies. In 2002, he was featured in Sunil Shetty starrer Anarth. In 2009, he was starred in Ajay Jadeja’s Pal Pal Dil Ke Saath.

10. In 2011, he announced his retirement from the domestic cricket.

Meanwhile, Vinod Kambli stood up for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections in 2009. He represented the Lok Bharati Party from the Vikhroli. But he lost the election by a huge margin. He got married to Andra and later he converted to Christianity. Andrea is his second wife and their son is named as Jesus Christiano Kambli.
