The Income Tax officials “surveyed” actor Sonu Sood’s Mumbai home and a company related to him in Lucknow, as per sources by NDTV claimed today.
The tax survey comes just days after the actor’s highly anticipated meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who named him the brand ambassador for the Delhi government’s school mentoring initiative. Sonu Sood refused to answer questions about joining politics, specifically Mr Kejriwal’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party, after the meeting (AAP).
In the past year, Sonu Sood’s humanitarian initiatives have won him a legion of fans around the country. During the pandemic, the 48-year-old actor received widespread appreciation for his charity work. He arranged special flights home for migrants stranded by last year’s lockdown, and he arranged oxygen for COVID-19 patients in April-May, when the second wave was at its climax.
Though he has never expressed an interest in politics, suspicion arose following his meeting with the AAP chairman, with rumours circulating that the actor would run in the Punjab election next year.
Many people related the tax searches to the meeting.
Asif Bhamla, BJP spokesman, said that has nothing to do with anything. Any personality can meet any other personality. It’s not a raid; it’s just a search. It’s based on a tip. It isn’t essential for the charity’s leader to have done anything improper. It has to be something on a more basic level. Income Tax is a separate department with its own set of rules.
