Did you know? CJI, SA Bobde, wanted Shah Rukh Khan to be a member of the Ayodhya mediation committee and the actor accepted the offer!

The Ayodhya land dispute has always been a contentious issue in India, prompting numerous debates among political leaders and parties. But not many are aware that outgoing Chief Justice of India S A Bobde wanted Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan to participate in the Ayodhya land conflict resolution process? The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President and Senior Advocate Vikas Singh made this information public for the first time.

It was during his speech at the CJI’s farewell ceremony that he mentioned it, “Justice Bobde, who was a member of the Ayodhya bench, believed that Ayodhya dispute should be resolved through mediation. He had asked me since I knew the family of Shah Rukh Khan very well, whether the actor will be interested in participating in the mediation. And I spoke to the actor. He was more than willing to be a part of the mediation process because he also felt the best way Hindus and Muslims can live together peacefully in this country is when there is complete religious harmony.”

However, this did not occur, and in March 2019, a five-judge Constitution bench led by then-CJI Ranjan Gogoi formed a mediation panel to settle the land dispute.
