Royal Challengers Bangalore have endured another frustrating campaign in the IPl so far. Despite their win last night, RCB are still languishing in the bottom half, with nothing pride to play for. So often the Bengaluru franchise has been over-reliant on the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in the past, however, Moeen Ali has been a shining light for them in an otherwise underwhelming season.
Ali has scored 216 runs in IPL 2019. RCB’s match against Kings XI Punjab will be Ali’s last match in this season as he will flying back to England for the World Cup preparations. Having starred for his team so far, Ali compared himself to Virat and de Villiers and said that he too has the potential to be equally destructive.

Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Ali said, “I think it gives a lot of confidence if Virat and AB don’t score, or if one of them doesn’t play like AB didn’t against KKR, we could still score 200-plus. I have the confidence in my own game and believe that I can also score runs just as quickly as them and take games away from the opposition. It won’t always happen but I know I can do that.”
Moreover, he also added that his role was to supplement Kohli and ABD and take the pressure off them so that they can play with freedom. “My job in the team is to do that [take the pressure off Kohli and de Villiers]. It is very difficult for a team to win if you rely on just two guys batting because they feel the pressure as well. My job is to come and score some runs and be part of the batting group and contribute in winning games,” said Ali.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have amassed just 8 points from a possible 22 so far. Next up for Virat’s men is a crucial game against Delhi Capitals where a win would see them gain momentum by beating the northerners.
