Once again Jaydev Unadkat grabbed all the limelight as he topped the charts at the IPL 2019 auction, which was held in Jaipur. He was bought for Rs 8.4 crore by Rajasthan Royals. He shared the top position with the spinner perfectionist Varun Chakravarthy. Earlier, in 2018 IPL auctions, RR had signed Jaydev with a whopping amount of Rs 11.5 crore. But this year he failed to live up to this price. The base price of Jaydev was Rs 1.5 crore and for Varun, it was Rs. 20 lakhs. Varun with having such a low base price still managed to get a heavy bid for himself.
Yuvraj Singh was bought by Mumbai Indians in Rs 1 crore, which was also his base price to start with. He has been a shadow of his former self on the field in the past, still he went unsold on the field during the first round of auctions.
The others that were noticed at the auction were Sam Curran who was bought by KXIP for Rs 7.2 crore and Soth African batsman Colin Ingram managed the huge sum of Rs 6.4 crore from Delhi Capitals. Earlier this year, Sam Curran has been the Man of the series in five-match Test series between England and Australia. Along with them Shivam Dube, a player who recently hit 5 sixes in an over, was sold for Rs 5 crore after having a base price of Rs 20 lakh.
This Year IPL auction has brought a lot of surprises for the cricket fraternity and their fans, too. Due to the ICC World Cup 2019, many teams have not allowed their players to play IPL till the end. This gave an opportunity to a lot of hidden talents to take the limelight with a great amount.
Meanwhile, in all 60 players were sold at the IPL auction. It included 40 Indian and 20 overseas players. The total money spent during the auction was Rs 1,06,80,00,0000.
