“Its a crime to be an old man here,” Sharat Saxena opens up being type casted in small roles for his age

You might didn’t know him by his name, but you must recognise him by his face. Veteran Bollywood Actor, Sharat Saxena, has worked in hundreds of films but didn’t get the name and fame that he deserves. He finally opens up on some serious issues in the film industry in an exclusive chat with The Indian Express.

“The moment you start looking old, you are thrown out of this industry. You are old or not doesn’t matter, you have to look young. It’s a crime to be an old man here,” he told the newspaper. The Mr India actor also refuses a common belief that Females have a lesser career shelf in the film industry than male actors. He believes that this is an issue with every actor in the film industry. He further said, “I’m 71 but I still have to try to look like 45…that’s how it is. This is a young people industry.”

A few days back, an old interview of him resurfaced on social media where he admitted that no filmmaker even consider him an actor because of his looks and physique. He believes that the film industry has certain beliefs like the hero must be handsome, clean face and a perfect looking guy like Lord Rama. Anyone who is not so good looking could only play the villains here, no matter how good he is at acting.

Sharat Saxena has been typecasted as the villain’s sidekick for over 30 years. It was Shaad Ali directorial ‘Saathiya’ when he got recognition as the father of Rani Mukherji’s character. His last film was an OTT film, Sherni, starring Vidya Balan in lead. In the last decade, the talented powerhouse didn’t get any big role except playing certain roles in Salman Khan biggies like Bodyguard, Race 3 and Dabangg3.
