When James Bond star Daniel Craig auditioned for Aamir Khan’s film ‘Rang De Basanti’

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, a maverick hindi filmmaker, shared an unknown and a very interesting trivia about his film ‘Rang De Basanti’. The director recalls the time when Current James Bond star Daniel Craig auditioned for his film.

Mehra penned his life experiences in his autobiography, ‘The Stranger in the mirror’. The Bhaag Milkha Bhaag director wrote in his book, “I remember vividly that one of the people who auditioned for the part of James McKinley, the young jailor who walks Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev to be hanged, was none other than current James Bond, Daniel Craig.”

In the book, Mehra told that Daniel Craig was his first choice for the role but he was considered to be next James Bond that’s why Daniel asked him to allow him some time. “Daniel Craig was my first choice but he requested if we could allow some time as he was also being considered to be the next James Bond. The rest, as they say, is history,” he added.

Rang De Basanti starring Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, Kunal Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, R. Madhavan was released in 2006. Daniel Craig debuted as James Bond in the same year with Casino Royale. Later, the actor played iconic British spy in four more films – Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre, and the yet-to-be-released No Time to Die. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s autobiography has been launched on July 27, 2021.
