The 1989 film Maine Pyar Kiya doesn’t only mark the debut of Salman Khan, Bhagyashree and Sooraj Barjatya. It was also the debut film of Actor Dilip Joshi. Dilip Joshi became a household name after doing the character of Jethalal in a satire-comedy serial ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah’. But, Did you know he was about to leave the industry before the offer of this show?
A clip of an old interview of Dilip Joshi goes viral on social media where he has revealed his struggles before TMKOC. In the video, the actor has mentioned that he was offered to play either Champaklal or Jethalal in the sitcom. He says no to Champaklal’s character as he was not looking the part but decided to give it a try for Jethalal’s character. It was the producer Asit Kumarr Modi who was more confident than the actor himself for his character.
“Before I signed TMKOC, for over a year, I had no job, The serial I was working on had gone off-air. So, I had no work. It was a tough time and I couldn’t comprehend what should I do or whether I should change my field. But by the grace of God, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah was offered to me and it became such a hit that there was no looking back, ”says Dilip Joshi.
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah was first aired on July 28, 2008. This is one of the longest-running Indian satire-comedy shows. TMKOC is based on the weekly column “Duniya Ne Undha Chasma” by Taarak Mehta in Chitralekha magazine.
