Despite the controversy and criticism that Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani’s Kabir Singh has been getting on social media and from social commentators, the film is racing ahead at the box office and how.
Kabir Singh has now surpassed the lifetime box-office collection of Salman Khan’s Bharat to become the second highest-grossing movie of 2019 so far. The Shahid Kapoor starrer is only behind Vicky Kaushal’s Uri: The Surgical Strike, which, too, could likely lose the race, keeping in mind the momentum that Kabir Singh has.
In 14 days of its release, Kabir Singh has managed to earn a total of Rs 213.20 crore at the box office, while Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s Bharat, despite getting a huge opening day, managed to earn only Rs 210.68 crore in its lifetime run at the box office.
Meanwhile, Kabir Singh is behind Uri: The Surgical Strike, which is still the highest-grossing film of 2019 so far. The Vicky Kaushal starrer made Rs 245.36 crore in its lifetime run.
This is quite a feat for Shahid and Kiara’s film, as not even the film trade analysts had predicted this kind of success, let alone fans. Add to that, the film has been receiving criticism from several quarters for being patriarchal, misogynistic and glorifying deplorable male chauvinistic behaviour.
However, Shahid Kapoor and several others have requested these social commentators to view Kabir Singh as a flawed character and his story and not as a commentary on society.
Kabir Singh has shown the legs as the Shahid Kapoor starrer is making big bucks at the box office, even two weeks post its release. It’ll be interesting to see exactly how much, Kabir Singh is able to collect in its lifetime.
