Kangana Ranaut, a Bollywood actress, has once again sparked debate with her views and ideas. The Padma Shri awardee actress claimed last week during an interview at a summit that India’s liberation was a “bheekh” and that the country gained true independence in 2014 after the Narendra Modi-led government took office. On Tuesday, the actress shared an old newspaper story with the caption, “Either you are a Gandhi fan or Netaji supporter. You can’t be both, choose and decide.”

“Gandhi, others agreed to hand over Netaji,” the headline read in one of the newspapers from 1940. “Those are the ones who taught us,” she added, “that if someone slaps you, you offer another cheek for one more slap and that is how you receive aazaadi.” That’s not how you get aazadi; that’s how you get bheekh. Make sensible choices for your heroes.”

The Manikarnika actress further added, “So you need to choose who you support because just placing them all in one box of your memory and every year wishing them all on their birth anniversaries is not enough……. One must know their history and their heroes.”

Kangana Ranaut’s statement sparked outrage on social media. Several MPs have requested Kangana’s apology and have asked for her Padma Shri award to be revoked since her speech degrades the sacrifice of all those freedom fighters who gave their lives for the country. Kangana further stated that if she is found to be incorrect, she will return her Padma Shri.
