Kapil Dev Hails Ranveer Singh’s “Great Energy” for his upcoming Biopic ’83

Former Indian Cricket team captain Kapil Dev, who is currently mentoring Ranveer Singh for ’83 is happy that Indian cinema ready to welcome sports-based films. Over the course of the last couple of years, sports biopics such as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Soorma, Dangal, Mary Kom, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Sachin: A Billion Dreams and many others have been appreciated and loved by the audiences.

Kapil revealed in an interview that earlier, this was not the case and that he is happy Indian cinema is welcoming real movies. He said, “The fact that biopics and films are being made on sports stars goes on to show that India is now ready for real films, which is a good sign. Over 20 years ago, India was not ready to make movies on sports.”

The film ’83 revolves around Kapil and his captaincy, leading his team to victory in the ICC World Cup in 1983, defeating West Indies in the final. Ranveer Singh will play the role of Kapil Dev and the movie is helmed by Kabir Khan, in the production of Reliance Entertainment.

When quizzed why Ranveer was chosen to play his role Kapil added, “It was not up to me to decide who will play my character in the film. But Ranveer has such great energy. I know that he will give more than 100 percent to the film and the entire team will make this movie a success.”

The film will be of greater importance to Kapil because his daughter Amiya is working as the assistant director in the film. Speaking about the same, Kapil said, “My daughter has never seen me play cricket. However, she told me that she is extremely happy to be a part of this movie. I wish her all the luck.”

In the end, Kapil concluded the interview by saying, “Making a film like ’83 is a beautiful idea and I know that Ranveer and team will do a great job.”
