Kesari, Kalank and Some other Dynamic Historical Dramas in 2019

2019 is quite a mixed bag for Bollywood as the top grossing movies are making their way ahead. Currently Bollywood is all busy for giving us some dynamic historical drama movies. Last year Padmavaat created a huge impact on the audience and now filmmakers are making movies that acquaint people with interesting stories of the past that were long buried in the history books. So here’s the list of some epic Bollywood movies that are lined up and planned for 2019.

1. Kesari

Kesari is an Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer film that is based on the Battle of Saragarhi where 21 Sikhs fought against 10,000 Afghans in 1897. The movie is directed by Anurag Singh and is slated to release on March 21, 2019.

2. Kalank

Karan Johar’s Kalank stars actors Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Sonakshi Sinha, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, and Aditya Roy Kapur. The movie is directed by Abhishek Varman and jointly produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, and Fox Star Studios. The period drama is slated to release on April 17, 2019. Karan Johar has said, “Kalank has a beautifully structured story by Shibani Bathija and an exceptionally fluid narrative and screenplay by Abhishek.”

3. Panipat

Arjun Kapoor starrer Panipat js based on the third battle of Panipat. The film is helmed by Ashutosh Gowariker and will hit the theaters on December 6, 2019.

4. Takht

Takht is based on the Mughal era that showcases the battle of succession between Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb. The film features Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, and Anil Kapoor. It is slated to release next year. It will hit the theaters in 2020.

5. Shamshera

Ranbir Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor’s will be seen together in the film. Ranbir essays the role of a dacoit. The film is based on a dacoit tribe who fought for their rights and independence from Britishers. It is directed by Karan Malhotra and made under the Yash Raj Films banner. The movie is slated to release on July 31, 2020. Talking about the film, Ranbir has earlier said, “Shamshera is in the aspirational space, the space of true, badass commercial cinema.”

6. Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior

Ajay Devgn starrer historical drama Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior. Tanaji was the military leader in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The release date of the film is yet to be announced.

7. Battle of Saragarhi

Randeep Hooda will be seen essaying the role of Havaldar Ishar Singh in Battle of Saragarhi. The movie is helmed by Rajkumar Santoshi and is based on the battle of Saragarhi that took place in 1897 between British Indian Army and Afghan Orakzai tribesmen in North-West Frontier Province, has been long in the making. The release date is yet to be announced.
