The nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar, turns 92 today. There is no doubting that she’s been one of the best singers the country has given us. With a career that has spanned for over 6 decades, Lata is also the 2002 recipient of Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour.
When asked about plans for her birthday, she said that it is going to be a private affair, where only the close relatives will attend the dinner, keeping in mind the Covid 19 restrictions. However, this isn’t new for the singing sensation, as all her birthday parties are always private ones. “I would spend quality time with Maiee (mother) and my siblings. Maiee would cook delicious lunch and we would all spend the entire afternoon eating, chatting and laughing,” reminisced the singer, while talking to a leading daily.
While Mangeshkar says that it’s with the blessings of the Almighty and her parents that she’s reached to this age, she also benevolently seeks blessings for the people suffering in the ongoing pandemic. “I pray the Almighty blesses our country as well during these horrific Covid19 times,” she was reported to be saying.
Lata didi started off in 1948, with the song ‘Aayegaa Aanewala’ from the movie ‘Mahal’, a 1948 Bombay Talkies production. The rest is history.
