Legendary actor Dilip Kumar’s demise on Wednesday has shocked the entire Indian film industry and left them in mourning. The thespian passed away at the age of 98 which has left a void in the film industry and a person of work behind, for future actors and filmmakers to learn from. The actor passed away at Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai who had been facing regular health problems for months.
Dilip Kumar’s friend, Faisal Farooqui wrote on the thespian’s official Instagram account as “With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago. We are from God and to Him, we return”.
The actor was known as a method actor who was never limited to genres and he was widely known as the ‘Tragedy King’ of Bollywood. The legendary actor was a part of dramas, comedies and romance amongst others in his career spanning over more than five decades.
Some of the popular movies of the actors include Aan, Daag, Devdas, Madhumati, Azaad, Mughal-e-Azam, Gunga Jamuna, Kranti, Karma, Ram Aur Shyam, among others.
Dilip Kumar also possesses the honour of being the only Indian to receive the highest civilian award of Pakistan, Nishan-e-Imtiaz.
Taking his contributions in cinema, the actor was honoured with India’s highest award in the artform, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
Dilip Kumar has the record for winning the Best Actor category in the Filmfare Awards: 8. Dilip Kumar has also won the inaugural trophy in 1954 for the same category.
