After an enormous collection on the first day of its release, the Akshay Kumar starrer space film ‘ Mission Mangal’ seems to be on a juggernaut run as it went on to break the highest-earning film on Sunday by beating Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Kabir Singh’.
Helmed by Jagan Shakti, the film also features Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kriti Kulhari, Nitya Menen and Sharman Joshi apart from Akshay. According to a report on Boxofficeindia.com, the film has managed to rake in Rs 27.50 crore on Sunday, breaking the record which was previously held by ‘Kabir Singh’ with Rs 27.26 crore.
For the uninitiated, Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh had set various record after its release and despite the negative reviews from critics, Kabir Singh went on become the highest-grossing film of 2019.
After overtaking Kabir Singh’s record earning milestone on Sunday, Mission Mangal may challenge for the same. In just four days, Mission Mangal is already looking set to enter the 100 cr club and it seems Akshay Kumar has worked his magic yet again.
Touted to be India’s first space film, Mission Mangal follows the scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM).
With only six films till now crossing the 20 crore mark at the domestic box-office on Sunday, Akshay and his team have managed to upset the makers of ‘Kabir Singh’. With four more months to go, we are waiting to see if any film will be able to surpass Jagan Shakti’s space film ‘ Mission Mangal’ collection.
