Nawazuddin Siddiqui stated his comments about leaving the OTT platform were “taken out of context.” The actor attributed his rise in popularity to the internet.

Stars like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saif Ali Khan, and R Madhavan had already stepped into the area with shows like Sacred Games and Breathe before digital spaces became prominent platforms. Nawazuddin was also in films like Raat Akeli Hai and Serious Men, all of which were released on digital platforms.

In an interview with India Today, Nawazuddin clarified his statement, saying, I am doing a lot of films for OTT. Netflix is why I’m sitting here. We’ve all gotten international recognition thanks to OTT platforms. We get to show off our skills in front of the entire world. In my statement, I was referring to those production houses that produce anything at any time. It was taken out of context, and it was never my intention to indicate that I wanted to stop doing OTT. I simply do not want to do anything that resembles a serial.

I was born to do this. That’s why I’m convinced I’m an escapist who can’t cope with reality. When I’m shooting, I start to believe that the world I’m in is genuine. I’m a coward in real life. I can at least speak the truth through him when I’m in character. In real life, I can’t do it because a lot of things can happen, he continued.

Nawazuddin has twice been nominated for an International Emmy Award for his work on the digital platform. He was nominated for an Academy Award this year for his role in the Netflix film Serious Men. He had already been nominated for his role in Sacred Games.
