Nawazuddin Siddiqui participated in plantation and river cleaning drive, says “If I would shoot in London then also come here to help this cause”

Nawazuddin Siddiqui, whose childhood spent in a village in West Uttar Pradesh, understands well the need for a healthy environment. He recently has participated in a social cause in Meerut.

The Gangs of Wasseypur actor has visited Meerut earlier today and took part in plantation drive and river cleaning at Kali River. The program was a part of the local administration and the Central government’s Kali Nadi Sewa Project. The project involves the cleaning of 40 Km of Kali River flowing through Meerut and planting trees along the bank.

While talking on the same, Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui said, “When I was growing up in Budhana, a village not far from here, rivers were a part of my life. We used to swim there and our life as farmers revolved around them. It pains me to see what we have done to our rivers. Even if I would have been shooting in London, I would have flown back to help this cause.”

As a part of the project, Nawazuddin Siddiqui planted a sapling of the plant along the river banks in Rasulpur, a village in Aurangabad and asked the youngsters, gathered to see him, take care of the plant. He also encourages the villagers to look after nature and the environment.

Meerut District Magistrate K Balaji thanked the actor and said, “When people of this stature get involved, it motivates everyone to do their part. People here have been doing commendable work as part of the cleanliness drive and I hope they continue to do so.”
