Poonam Pandey pornography case: Supreme Court grants interim protection from arrest to the actress

On Tuesday, Supreme Court granted protection to actress Poonam Pandey in the porn films racket case. In the porn films racket case Raj Kundra, the husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty is one of the main accused.

Notice was issued by the bench of Justices Vineet Saran and B.V. Nagarathna to the Maharashtra government on an appeal filed by the actress challenging a Bombay High Court order, which junked her anticipatory bail plea. The top court in its order said, “No coercive action shall to taken against the petitioner.”

The Bombay high court declined to grant relief to Poonam Pandey in November last year. The actress moved to the Supreme Court challenging the high court order. She has been made an accused in the FIR along with actress Sherlyn Chopra.

Also, the Supreme Court on December 15 granted Raj Kundra 4 weeks of protection from arrest in one of the cases related to a porn film racket. In November, the Bombay high court had declined to entertain the anticipatory bail application filed by Raj Kundra in connection with an FIR registered against him by Mumbai police. After the high court refused relief Kundra moved to the high court.

Adding more details, Raj Kundra first sought anticipatory bail from the session court, but the session court refused to grant him any relief. Thereafter he moved to Bombay high court. The cyber cell of the Mumbai police filed a case against Raj Kundra, but he claimed that he was connected to content creation and transmission of alleged illegal videos. Meanwhile, Raj Kundra was arrested by Mumbai police last year, and in September he was granted bail.
