Tessy Thomas is the first woman to head a missile project in India. Well, she is an inspiration to many being the Agniputri, the lady leads many projectiles.

Well, talking about her, the lady could have been an IAS officer, she even wrote the exam. But an interview with (DRDO) changed her life and she cleared the interview and joined the organization immediately in 1988. And the lady is termed as ‘Missile Woman of India’.

“We feel Tessy Thomas serves as a role model and an inspiration for women scientists to achieve their dreams and have their feet planted in both worlds successfully,” said the Indian Women Scientist’s Association

“She is the first woman to head an Indian missile project, Tessy Thomas has decisively broken the glass ceiling to make her mark in a traditionally male bastion. Having stood out ever since she joined the DRDO in 1988, she has played a pivotal role in India’s missile development programme, particularly in the making of its long-range nuclear-capable ballistic missile, the Agni-V.”

Recently, after NITI Aayog’s tweet about Tessy’s speech at Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES 2017) went viral, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra said, “Tessy deserves to be more famous than the biggest Bollywood star. A poster of Tessy in every Indian school will wreck stereotypes and create enormous career aspirations for girls.”

She had a natural aptitude towards mathematics and physics and she even scored full marks in mathematics in her 11 and 12 standards.

The lady has a personal attachment for her mother and said in an interview, “It must have been tough for my mother — who was not allowed to work — to look after us on her own. Yet she made sure each of her five daughters and one son had a good education… I’ve inherited her strong will for sure. I am equally persevering and determined like my mother.”
