Shani Shingnapur or Sonia is a village in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is located in Nevasa taluka in Ahmednagar district. Interestingly the village is very much known for its popular temple of Shani. A temple with a black rock over five feet tall, installed on a platform without a roof, sits at the heart of the village of Shani Shingnapur. Interestingly the temple strengthens the local tradition of not installing doors and locks to the village houses.
Well, the temple has grown into a large trust with a lot a donation and property under it. But still, there are no doors for any houses, shops, temples and post offices. This is due to the fear of Lord Shani which makes them have no doors on any structures, be it dwelling houses, huts, shops, etc. situated within a one-kilometer radius of this Lord Shani temple have neither doors nor locks.
As there are no doors anywhere in the village, several thieveries or burglary cases have been reported already.
Shani Shingnapur is visited regularly by a lot of people daily. The place is being visited by most of the devotees, especially on Saturday. Among all Shani, Thrayodashi is considered to be a favorite day for the lord.
