Sonu Sood, on his birthday, has joined as the brand ambassador of India’s Special Olympics movement. The actor has also announced that he will be accompanying India’s contingent, next year, to the Special Olympics World Winter Games which will be happening in Russia.
Sonu made the announcement in a virtual interaction which included several special athletes and authorities from Special Olympics Bharat. He told “Today is a very special day for me and I am delighted to join this journey of inclusion with Special Olympics Bharat. I feel privileged to join the family and vouch to make this platform even bigger and resonate with people all over the country”.
While interacting with the special athletes, Sonu responded to the queries and appreciated their sporting achievements. They also introduced him to an initiative, #WalkForInclusion, of Special Olympics Asia Pacific Region. Being the brand ambassador, Sonu will lead India’s special athletes’ team to Kazan in Russia in January where they will represent the country at the World Winter Games.
Sonu told “I feel honoured to have this opportunity to be with our team in Russia for the Special Olympics World Winter Games. I will encourage our athletes to give their best and cheer them on with such enthusiasm that the roar of support will echo back home in India as well”.
The Games are the world’s biggest sporting event for people with intellectual disabilities and are held every two years (alternating between Summer and Winter Games). The next game being held from January 22-28, 2022 at Kazan in Russia.
India’s team for these Games are sent by Special Olympics Bharat, the National Sports Federation accredited by Special Olympics and recognized by the Government of India. Chairperson of Special Olympics Bharat, Dr. Mallika Nadda welcomed the actor by saying that “I wish to convey my gratitude to Sonu Sood for accepting our invitation to join the Special Olympics family. We are certain that he will play a major role in giving a new direction to the movement in India and help the cause of persons with intellectual disabilities all over the world”.
