Women have made just as much commitment to civilization as men, but society, sadly, needs to be reminded of that on a frequent basis. That is why several films nowadays depict female empowerment in the hopes that one day, all genders and sections of society will be viewed equally, and all films will be focused on society as a whole, not on a particular community.

  1. Thappad

Thappad is a 2020 drama film directed by Anubhav Sinha and co-produced by T-Series’ Bhushan Kumar. The film stars actress Taapsee Pannu.

It is a subliminal rebuke of our society’s long-held conviction that ‘shaadi mein sab kuch chalta hain.’ And makes a powerful point about misogyny and female abuse.

It’s a rallying cry for a future without gender battles.

  1. Raazi

The film stars Alia Bhatt as Sehmat, an undercover RAW agent who marries Iqbal (Vicky Kaushal), a Pakistani military officer, and is one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films with a female lead. The story revolves around Sehmat’s pivotal role in supplying intelligence to her Indian handlers prior to the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war.

As she juggles between the roles of a military wife for one nation and an intelligence operative for its counterpart, the film examines her turmoil and sacrifice, with the latter forcing her to take on a performative role.

Raazi is not blatantly militaristic, yet it does address Sehmat’s interactions and inner hardships with consideration and compassion, without glossing over the emotional implications of patriotism, which is a pleasant relief from the otherwise masculinist tone that spy movies take.
