Often referred to as the ”most beautiful actresses of her time”, Manisha Koirala’s recent films include Sanju and yet to be released Prasthanam. Have a look at her throwback photos below:

Born in the prominent political family in Kathmandu, Nepal, Manisha’s grandfather was Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala who was the Prime Minister of Nepal from the late 1950s to early 1960s.

Despite being born in Nepal, Koirala was raised in Varanasi by her maternal grandmother. In fact, the actress has stated several times that her granny never made her feel homesick and ensured that she treated India like her second home.

Many don’t know this but Manisha began her acting career, not with Bollywood film but a Nepalese film instead!

In 1991, she did her first ever film called Pheri Bhetula and it’s only after then she was launched by ace director Subhash Ghai in Saudagar which also starred Dilip Kumar, Raaj Kumar, Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, and Jackie Shroff.

The Gupt actress was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012. However, Manisha successfully beat the disease and emerged as a survivor. In her book titled Healed: How Cancer Gave Me a New Life, Manisha has described her journey as a survivor.

Besides this, she is also actively involved in social work mainly focussing on women’s right and violence against women.

Meanwhile, on the film front, Manisha’s next movie Prasthanam is a political-action film featuring Sanjay Dutt, Jacky Shroff, Chunky Panday, Ali Fazal, and Amyra Dastur in lead roles. Produced by Maanyata Dutt, Prasthanam is slated to release on September 20.
