The filmmaker of Namastey London Vipul Shah says that he had spoken to the original leads Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif for its sequel ‘ Namaste England’. But as Akshay was busy with his prior commitments and Katrina thought that people may not accept her in that role. The things did not work out between the original leads, therefore, Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra were selected for the main leads.
Namastey London was released in 2007. As soon as it hits the box-office the chemistry of Akshay and Katrina achieved a lot of appreciation. The music of the movie was also loved widely across the country.
Vipul told PTI that, ” Katrina could not have been an Indian Desi Girl. We both did speak about it. And she said this is role is something that people may not accept her in. I was going to do the film with Akshay but his dates were blocked for two years so he recommended I go to another actor.
After this Vipul approached Arjun Kapoor for the main lead role as he had all the qualities what he wanted to showcase in the film.
Vipul told,” I met Arjun and I told him I was going to do this with Akshay but he doesn’t have dates. He heard the script and agreed to do it and that’s how he came into the picture. I wanted someone desi who can also look modern and who got a certain honesty in his face. He further added, ” He was the most suited boys for the part. Parineeti was already part of it when I was going to do it with Akshay.”
Vipul also knows that most of the people will prefer the first film over that sequel. Speaking on this he said,” I am sure eight out of ten people will say ” Namatey London’ was better, this is bad because it’s human nature, whatever is old is gold. they must’ve seen ‘Namastey London’ so many times, have been listening to its music all these years. And that’s because you are already emotionally connected to the first one so you treat this as a lesser cousin of the original one.”
‘Namastey London’ is all set to release this Thursday. Vipul is hoping that the movie goes well and hit the box-office.
