Ravi Shastri, trainer of the Indian cricket squad, on September 02, disclosed why Indian team captain Virat Kohli was on rest from the recently-ended Asia Cup 2018.
“Virat needed this rest. Physically he is a bull. You can’t give him out of the ground. And the thing with Virat is if he plays, then you know the level of intensity he brings. So it was a case of just mental fatigue, giving him a break, take your mind off cricket and then come back fresh”, he told media people.
Ravi Shastri added that the same procedure will be accompanied for other players too.
“And we will have to do it with a lot of other players. You know like Bumah (Jasprit Bumrah), Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar), we have to sustain them and keep them energetic”, he added.
Virat Kohli will head the 15-member Indian cricket squad for the forthcoming two match Test series in contrast to the Windies.
Kohli will recommence global action with the Test series commencing on October 4 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.
But, there was no place in the squad for opener Shikhar Dhawan, who contended in the Tests in contradiction of England.
Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal have been incorporated in the group whilst fast bowlers Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar have been on rest.
Murali Vijay, who was dropped for the concluding two Tests in England, was afresh unnoticed whilst Dinesh Karthik and Karun Nair — both who got included in the India team for the Test series in England — have also been excluded.
Karthik’s omission entails that Rishabh Pant is the only wicket-keeper in the India group. Pant, who was seen in the concluding three Tests in England, had enthralled with the bat, recording his first Test century in the concluding Test in contradiction of England.
Hanuma Vihari, who also impressed on debut in the concluding Test at The Oval, London, also got a position in the country’s 15-man group.
